Family Dinners

Updated: Oct 29, 2020

Family Dinners for me growing up were so exciting, especially being able to fellowship at the dinner table. I honestly feel like for many of us that was the perfect time to catch up with one another.

In my family we were always silly, especially at my Grandmothers, who use to serve us all like a football team. I will never forget Pancakes, with that Kings Syrup, or her Sweet Potato Casserole with Marshmallows, that I am still trying to perfect! Another stand out was my dad’s shrimp and grits. Now I feel families are growing away from each other.

The 2020 global Pandemic, Covid-19, in so many ways reminded us how important life is. During the quarantine, so many of us forgot about each other. I am considered part of Generation X, and most of us, by the time we reached our teens, had televisions in our room. As a result, we began to take for granted what family dinners meant and replace it with the glamour of the idiot box, unwillingly growing apart from one another.

The time many of us have spent during Quarantine has brought the resurgence of togetherness with loved ones. I started providing weekly meals to my customers, dubbed Sunday Dinners with Chef Renaldo. The response has been so wonderful! Customers have thanked me for saving them a trip to the market, and providing them with an outlet on Sundays, to fellowship safely during this time. It reminds me of times of old. I can honestly say its something I am extremely proud of and I hope God will continue to use me as a vessel to bring fellowship with even more families through food.
